Ghosts

At what point in time are we set free from the ghosts of our past?
What price do we have to pay to exorcise these spectors that continue to haunt us?
What must one do?
Tell me...I'd like to know!

For years now, I have been fighting this fight. I've tried to be strong and persevere through the battles, but I am feeling the effects of fatigue.

My body is tired.
My mind is drained.
My soul feels sucked dry.

At what point, are we recognized for our courage through these battles?
When can we find rest?
Will there be resolution?
When will peace be achieved?

No matter what I say, no matter what I do, it's always going to be perceived negative.
I will never be trusted again. I am slowly accepting this harsh reality.
I almost feel that despite all I've done, my words and actions mean nothing anymore.

At this point, I know God has made me new, forgiven me, and given me strength. I fought valiantly! And through God's grace, He has brought me peace.

So I will do what I know is the most powerful. I will pray and lift my friend up to the Lord! He has the power to forgive and create anew. Only He can put these ghosts to rest!

31 years of love, tears, and good times

It's always weird, especially when you haven't blogged for a long time. I've kept myself busy and forgotten this form of expression for some time.

I'm always reading tech blogs like kotaku.com or gizmodo.com, or even developer blogs. Not like I'm trying to get attention or anything, but there is definitely something about putting your thoughts down in words.

Yesterday, was my 31st birthday. Yes, can you believe this short and handsome guy is only 31?! Crazy isn't it!? Just kidding about the handsome part.

Gone are the days of crazy parties, lots of alcohol, and finding myself hungover for days. Long gone are the days of when I invited everyone I knew, and wished they were ALL there. This year, I did something different. In contrast to my 30th last year, this time around was pretty low key.

But this birthday has also been one that had so many ups and downs. A few downs I'd like to forget about, but how we deal with this situations actually helps define us. Felt like I was on a roller coaster. Where's my dromamine?

I wasn't going to let the shennanings of others or series of unfortunate events ruin the one day that can be set aside for me. No, this year I spent my birthday with a close knit of friends, small groups at a time, and close family. The highlight of it all you ask, spending time with my lola (grandmother for those of you non-Pilipinos) & visiting the grave of my lolo (guess what that means in Pilipino).

It was very heartfelt and reminded me of my existence.

It made clear that this life I was given on Earth is short, and I have a choice of how to live it. Would I let the rest of my years be caught up in the superficial and pretentious expectations of this world? Nope. Would I live for myself and only seek rewards for me? Nope.

From here on out, I'm living my live for others. It's part of what we have been commissioned to do. Because face it people, everything we do in this life now, affects our life in eternity.

So this year, was it a great birthday? I can honestly say it was!

The past week has been a tumultuous one. It has been filled with a mixed bag of emotions; sadness, grief, confusion, hope, celebration, despair, gladness. But in all things, God has a divine plan for it all. We can't see it now, but if we continue to believe, live our lives according to His word, His will, and His plan for us, we surely will be blessed and rewarded in the end.

With Lolo passing, I've searched for comfort. I've found it in my friends, my family, my loved ones, my partner, and in the Lord. But I have also found it in song.

Switchfoot created a song called "This Is Home" for the movie Prince Caspian. It is a song filled with hope and a reminder of God's promise to us. So enjoy this today, and always. May it bring you comfort in your trying times.

You know it's been awhile since I truly wrote a long blog. It's either been a micro-blog via Twitter, or from Dailybooth. I really wished I had more time to blog because I feel like my mind tends to get crowded with thoughts and ideas. I also noticed that my writing ability tended to be a bit better when I was an avid blogger. My descriptions and sentence structure were well developed. Now it's that texting language. Damn you Twitter and microblogging with 100+ characters or less.

But that's not what I wanted to blog about tonight. The Thanksgiving holiday just recently passed. Thinking back to how this past November has been, a lot did happen this month. With work to personal, life has been nothing less of chaotic and stressful. But Thanksgiving couldn't have come at a better time when things look bleak.

But Thanksgiving is more than just one day. It's an actual mind-set. God wants us to continue giving thanks in not just the good times, but also during the tough times. We are to always remember that everyday that we live on this Earth is a blessing with God. I forgot where I got this from, but think about the food that you are eating. And then contrast that with the millions of people who are starving and struggle to find the next meal. Think about your car that you drive to work. Then parralell that with someone who doesn't even have a job. And then lastly, that old beat up or not as powerful computer that you are reading this blog on. Then think about others who do not have that same luxury. We have many things to be thankful for. It's just all about your perspective.

Remember to have a Godly perspective. That is one of the ways that we can remember to keep Him first in our lives.

Lunch at Jax

This is the Cajun Chicken sandwich at a place I like to visit called Jax. It's this little eatery in Glendale that also serves as a Jazz club/bar during some nights.

This sandwich was pretty tasty and I'm glad I followed the recommendation for it. Thanks!

The price was too bad because it also came with fries, a pickle, and a orange wedge!

A must place to visit if you like those places with a little something special and leas cooking cutter like some of the main stream places.

Challenges

This world is full of challenges. Sometimes, we are faced with really tough choices. But it really does depend on how you approach it.

At both my jobs, when we are faced with challenges we make a choice. We make the choice of how we are going to react. We make a choice to push, or choosing to let flee.

It's that fight or flight reflex.

But there is also a component I feel that is missing. And that is your attitude.

Sometimes challenges are good for us. God challenges all the time and I am thankful. It's really a test of our faith. It humbles us.

When you are challenged, do you pray? The Lord will never present in our lives that we are not able to handle as long as we rely on His strength and guidance.

Let's pray for strength, guidance, and courage when we are challenged.

Thank you Lord for being there for us!

Iphone 4 launch date: The Good and the Ugly!

I purchased the iPhone 4 yesterday and chose to have my receipt emailed to me. There was a link on the email to fill out a survey. Here's what I had to say. Get ready.....it's long! Videos to follow...hopefully! LOL

I purchased the iPhone 4 on launch date. This will talk about that experience and offer suggestions that may enhance the experience.

I purchased my phone at the South Coast Plaza store in Costa Mesa, CA. I felt it was not coordinated with security at all. At about 1am, while waiting off-property. There were 3 lines that were formed; 2 for non-preorder and one for preorder. Customers were not allowed to wait on property until approx 4:45am. It was evident that there would be a maul of non-preorder customers; both lines rushing to the designated spot at the appropriate time. Even the preorder line was a mad dash to the designated spot. The customers requested that security walk each line to the designated spot to contain and control the situation. This was note done. This was a huge safety concern as we all know that individuals can get uncivilized when it comes to things they really want. That put South Coast Plaza and Apple possibly, at a huge liability if anyone were to get injured, which someone did. If security coordinated 2 lines off-property, it would prevent injury like that night. The way it happened, it didn't matter if you came at midnight (like me) or 5am. This resulted in people getting in heated arguments among each other (who waited next to each other for 10+ hours) and indirectly affecting the image of Apple. Security had no control of the situation. There was no designated or taped off queue line like at the Grand Opening of the Cerritos store at Los Cerritos. I drove by that location, and saw that it was organized with the line taped off.

The lines were ridiculous! A suggestion would be for pre-orders allowed to purchase on launch day; possibly a Monday. If the product were to sell out, at least there would be another shipment coming in on Tuesday; kind of like how new CD's and movies are made available on Tuesdays. This would help to replenish stock of the iPhone. Non-reserved customers would be allowed to purchase the day after; similar to how ATT sold iPhones. People who were able to pre-order should have been treated so; I was a walk-in.

To allow people to go about their business and maximize the ability to control crowds, times should have been given for people to come back. I borrow this suggestion from Disneyland and the "Fast Pass" concept. Apple should know how many people they can service in a 2 hour time frame. Give out cards with a "2 hour time frame" to return. People would be guaranteed a phone if they were given these cards and would eliminate the need to have a numeric order in line. This would allow security and Apple to control how many customers were in a line. It is easier to control a crowd of 200 at any given time, than 1,000 customers all day. This would also eliminate people cutting in line which was a huge problem.

On this card, customer information could be written down and simply given to the Apple rep to bring them their product, and expedite the checkout process. On this card info like phone number, billing zip code, last for digits of SSN, how many phones and which size you are purchasing, what additional items like the phone bumper, Mobile Me, do you need help setting up the phone, etc.

If this not a feasible option, customers could be given a ticket number that designated their position in line. I borrow this idea from the way Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, CA manages the long queue lines for their roller coasters. As an incentive for waiting in line, these tickets could possibly submitted for a raffle. A free Mobile Me subscription, iTunes card, discount off products, etc. Just a thought.

What was good on launch day at this location was Apple reps walking up and down the line taking a count of how many potential phones would be sold. This allowed Apple to inform customers if they were able to get a phone or not. How unfortunate would it have been to wait in line for 12+ hours to find out they sold out. It was a small action to take, but takes a huge consideration that customers are taking out of their day. Well done!

Catering of food to the customers in line was much appreciated. The food was good and much needed. Thank you Apple for sparing funds out of your profits to provide this hospitality.

On a personal note, it took me 10 mins to complete the checkout process, but waited in line for 12+ hours. There's a lot of opportunity to learn from each of these experiences, and I would have hoped that by the 4th time of doing this, lessons would have been learned. I am a loyal consumer of Apple and want the great products to continue to come out. As you focus your efforts on enhancing the customer's in store experience, continue to do so! But when you anticipate HUGE lines for one of your flagship products, don't forget all of the people in line waiting anxiously to give you their money for your product. They are making sacrifices in their money and time.
